Once Landa and his team learned this ink could also be used for printing, they created and unveiled the Indigo E-Print 1000 digital printing press in 1993. That's when the digital press was born. Now Benny Landa is known as the “father of digital printing” and continues to educate and lead the printing industry.

When Was Digital Printing Invented? In 1977 Benny Landa developed the world's fastest photocopier, which he named Indigo, later discovering that the ink for the photocopier, ElectroInk, could also be used in printers. ElectroInk has tiny particles suspended in imaging oil, called Isopar.

Digital printing differs from traditional, analog printing methods – such as offset printing – because digital printing machines do not require printing plates. Instead of using metal plates to transfer an image, digital printing presses print the image directly onto the media substrate.

Offset printing excels in producing high-quality prints, particularly for larger sizes and high quantities, at a lower cost per page. On the other hand, digital printing offers convenience and quick turnaround times, making it ideal for short-run production and situations requiring fast delivery.
